Copyright Claims

Posted by alipuk on January 23, 2019 in Gaming, Geek Stuff, Me |

I have just received another copyright claim to a video I have published, that contains a song from a playlist that was put together to allow small streamers to play music without the BS of copyright claims.

These claims on YouTube are starting to get out of hand, with several smaller content creators possibly losing their channels over this.

A lot of these claims are by Copyright trolls who are using the automatic system that You Tube uses to create false and misleading claims about songs, music, and images used in creator content. I have seen videos by creators where they have been claimed for Classical music and the visuals when its all their own work, and some cases there main source of income.

I have been claimed, rightly so in some cases, for music however the latest claim against me is incorrectly attributed to the wrong band and track. TWICE!

To dispute these claims is nigh on impossible, and unless you have 100000 followers talking to a human being is not possible.

Its a shame that Google in its infinite wisdom has decreed that small and medium sized content creators do not deserve the backup and protection that other larger creators get, and unfortunately are quite happy to roll over and give in to these trolls.

So where do we go from here?

The ball lies squarely in You Tube/Googles front yard, though I don’t think anything will be done in the near future. Perhaps a more robust system of Copyright Claim and speaking to a human or human involvement may help, but until there is a revamp of the system if you are a small to medium creator you will get screwed!
