my bike

Im going to start this post with an apology.

I’m sorry

The reason? Because you are going to see a lot of posts about motorbikes and learning to ride. Specifically my bike and my own journey learning to ride.

Back at the end of March I was encouraged by my wife and grandson #1 to do my Direct Access bike test, something I have been saying I will do since 2012.

As it was I did my CBT (Compulsory Bike Training) on March 21st 2019 and the start of my bike journey began.

So I have sat down, watched videos, read lots of books and decided that due to my lack of riding experience (prior to my CBT my experience of riding bikes was 3 times as a pillion Passenger) I should perhaps buy myself a 125 bike to allow me to practice riding.

At the beginning of April I managed to find and purchase a Keeway 125TM, essentially a Chinese KTM knock off, And I picked it up a week later on 11th April 2019.

This bike had a total of 197.1 Km on the clock and the bike was less than 3 years old!

The New Bike

On Day 1 of owning the bike I joined a small group of people doing their CBT and rode around the town I live in and the surrounding areas to get some experience and to get used to the bike.

This ride covered some 30 km and I got off with a big smile on my face!

The next day I decided to head down to a local beach some 9 miles from the house, but things went a little awry and I ended up in Lulworth cove a further 7 miles on top of where I had originally intended!

So day 2 of riding was a further 52 km of riding.

On the following day I was due to ride over to the Isle of Portland and visit the D-Day centre for a living history event that was being held there. This was my first event as a biker on 2 wheels with th Royal British Legion Riders Branch.

It was also the first day I had an issue with the bike.

Whilst riding along the road to go meet my friend, I noticed that the Left Mirror was tilting back on the stem I grabbed it and it literaly came off the stalk in my hand!

Honest Guv!

Thankfully I managed to get a new but generic left hand mirror for the bike, total cost £0 (so far) and a new genuine part was ordered.

With the side trip I covered some 20 Km.

Sunday I did the same and made the same distance, 20 Km

So in 4 days I had managed to cover approx 120 Km or 74 miles for a total of £8 in petrol! If that dose not make you smile then you must be cold hearted.

I haven’t smiled so much in ages and even my wife cant get over the fact that I seem to be happy when I am out riding.

So where do I go from here?

The next thing to do is my Theory and Hazard Perception test. That’s due on Monday 15th at 8 AM so hopefully all will go ok on that.

Until next time, May the wind be always at your back and the road clear of idiots!

Ride safe.
